Flightsee

On Thursday the weather cleared up and we finally had a chance to go on a flightseeing trip over the Knic glacier. We went in a float plane and took off from a lake near the airport. It was really nice, we saw mountain goats, and beluga whales and of course beautiful mountains and valleys from a perspective you don't usually get. The flight was great, not bumpy at all and the pilot explained everything really well. It is just amazing that these huge rivers of ice (the Knic is three miles across) are flowing down these moutains dragging huge rocks and grinding them into fine silt...
Denali even behaved and showed itself out in the distance, very cool.

Yesterday was a great tour of the Kenai Fjords for six hours. We had great weather and got to see lots of animals, and the amazing glaciers. You can check out the pics here in the Seward set. Today we're taking it easy going to the Alaska Sea Life Center then heading back north...

We're planning a trip to Alaska, so I've been getting some new camera equipment for the trip. I got a 58mm lens adapter for my Canon S3 IS, and a telephoto and wide angle lens and a UV filter. This is a shot I took while I was messing about with the filter, the others in this set were taken with the wide and the telephoto. The indoor shots with the wide angle are interesting if you make sure to shoot into a corner and not have any horizontal lines, it really pulls in the room. If you have anything horizontal it'll bow slightly due to the distortion, I don't really mind that but it's a little odd looking...

I've been joyfully married to my wife L for twenty years today, we've been together for twenty-six. I thought a big bunch of flowers from Barter Brothers florists would be nice to mark the occasion... In the process of taking some pics of the beautiful arrangement they sent, I also figured out a bit about getting super macro mode working on my Canon S3, it takes some finesse and the tripod.

Sabbatical
Here's an interesting political site that I came across in my readings : PolitiFact
The site claims to cross check assertions by different campaigns and parties and rate them on their truth content... I don't know about the background of the newspaper in question so, truth may be in the eye of the beholder.
