Big Cutting Board

January 14, 2026

I was watching an old Hot Ones episode on YouTube with Andrew Rea who is on YouTube as Binging With Babish and Andrew says this:

This immediately struck a chord and I decided right then to make a Big Cutting Board. I also am accumulating a lot of extra lumber from past projects and I’m due for a cull to avoid a wood avalanche in my garage. I made the cutting board above out of Sapele and Maple. I glued up alternating strips that were 1 1/2” thick by 1" 1/16” wide into a rough dimension 24 1/2” x 16” panel. When it had cured I used planes and 60,80,120,220 grit sanding to flatten it. I cut it to size and rounded all the edges with a 1/4” round over router bit and then oiled the whole thing with food safe mineral oil. I put rubber feet ( compensating with some washers for a slight twist) and it was done. I really like it, I should have done it sooner.
